Thought Island is a free anonymous postcard website where you can send a message to anyone, anywhere on Earth using an interactive 3D globe. Leave an anonymous note for a stranger, pin a kind word to any location in the world, or send a virtual postcard to someone special — no sign-up, no account, no tracking required.

Using a beautiful interactive 3D globe, anyone can tap any location on Earth and leave an anonymous postcard. No sign-up. No account. No tracking. Just a message, a place, and the hope that someone finds it.

Whether you want to leave a poem on a mountain peak, a joke in the middle of the ocean, or a kind word for a stranger in a faraway city — Thought Island is your canvas. Every postcard becomes part of a living, breathing map of human thoughts from around the world.

How it works

Open the globe — The moment you visit Thought Island, you're greeted with a spinning 3D globe covered in postcard pins from people all over the world. Zoom in, rotate, and explore messages left by strangers.
Tap anywhere to write — Click or tap any spot on the globe — a city, a coastline, a desert, the middle of the sea — to open the postcard composer. Your chosen location becomes the postmark on your card.
Write your message — Type up to 280 characters. It could be a quote, a confession, a joke, a poem, or simply "hello from here". You can also add an optional "To" field if you have someone specific in mind.
Set a delivery route — Choose a "From" country and a "To" country. When you send the postcard, a pigeon will fly across the globe from your origin to the destination, tracing a real great-circle arc over the Earth's surface.
Send it to the world — Hit send and your postcard is instantly pinned to the globe for everyone to discover. It appears in the leaderboard and can be found by anyone exploring the map.
Explore others — Click any pin on the globe to read that postcard. You'll see the message, the postmark with coordinates and date, and the delivery route if one was set.

The Pigeon Delivery System

One of Thought Island's most beloved features is the pigeon delivery animation. When a postcard has a "From" and "To" country set, a 🕊️ pigeon icon appears on the postcard. Click it and watch the globe come alive — the map flies to the origin country, and a pigeon soars across the globe following a mathematically accurate great-circle route (the shortest path between two points on a sphere), just like a real carrier pigeon would fly.

The animation takes around 8 seconds, giving you time to appreciate the distance your message is travelling. The globe follows the pigeon in real time, rotating and panning to keep the bird in view the entire journey.

Community & Moderation

Thought Island is built on kindness and trust. Every postcard is visible to the whole community, and the community helps keep it a positive place.

Upvotes & Downvotes — Each postcard can be upvoted (▲) or downvoted (▼). The leaderboard ranks postcards by score, so the most loved messages rise to the top. You can sort by Top, Newest, or Lowest rated.
Reporting — Every postcard has a Report button. If a postcard receives 3 or more reports from different visitors, it is automatically hidden from the map and leaderboard pending review.
Word filter — An automatic word filter blocks messages containing inappropriate language before they are ever posted.
Contact filter — To protect privacy and prevent spam, postcards containing phone numbers, email addresses, website URLs or social media handles are automatically rejected.
Admin review — Reported postcards are reviewed by a moderator who can restore or permanently delete them.

Privacy & Anonymity

Privacy is a core principle of Thought Island, not an afterthought. Here's exactly what we do — and don't — collect:

No accounts required — You never need to sign up, log in, or provide any personal information to use Thought Island.
No IP addresses stored — Your IP address is used only for rate limiting (to prevent spam) and is never written to disk or stored in the database.
No names or identities — All postcards are posted as "Anonymous". There is no way to link a postcard back to its author.
No user agents stored — Your browser type and device information are never logged.
Voter privacy — Vote tracking uses a random ID stored only in your browser's local storage. It is never sent to or stored on the server in a way that could identify you.
Memory-only abuse protection — Rate limits and duplicate-vote checks are kept in server memory only and are automatically cleared every 24 hours.

Share a Postcard

Found a postcard that moved you? Every postcard on Thought Island has its own unique shareable link. You can share it directly to:

X (Twitter) — Tweet the postcard with a pre-filled message.
Facebook — Share it to your timeline or a group.
WhatsApp — Send it directly to a friend or group chat.
Copy link — Copy the URL to share anywhere — email, Discord, iMessage, anywhere.
Native share — On mobile devices, the native share sheet lets you send it through any app on your phone.

When someone opens a shared link, they are taken directly to that postcard on the globe, with the map flying to its location automatically.

Why we built this

The internet can feel overwhelming and impersonal. Thought Island is a small antidote to that — a quiet corner of the web where you can leave something kind, funny, or thoughtful for a stranger to find. There are no algorithms pushing outrage, no follower counts, no likes tied to your identity. Just words, places, and people.

We believe anonymous kindness is still kindness. And sometimes, knowing that a stranger somewhere read your words and smiled is enough.
